Nokia Mobile is finally rolling out the Android Q (beta 5) to the Nokia 8.1. It is the first main release since the introduction of Android Q beta for the Nokia 8.1 back in May. The previous build was based on the Android Q Beta 3 released by Google.
The build versioned 4070 also includes the Android security patch for July 2019. However, the new build is currently only available for users who are already on Android Q (Beta 3, build 4011). Users who are currently on the latest stable Android Pie release cannot install this build. HMD Global is working to bring a new release which will take from latest Android Pie to Android Q Beta 5 (4070). Update: HMD Global has released a new build today which allows Android 9 users to also upgrade to Android Q Beta 5. Now, all Nokia 8.1 users (except for those from unsupported countries, below) can update to Android Q Beta 5.
You can download the new build from the Nokia Developer website. For step-by-step installation instructions, follow this guide. The beta is available if you’re not in Russia or China and own one of these TA variants – TA-1119, TA-1121 and TA-1128. If you are unable to get to Android Q developer preview website, you can download the mirrored image from our dedicated OTA post.
A new downgrade package is also released. So, if at any point you are unhappy with the Android Q builds, you can rollback easily. For rollback details, check here.
