OnePlus 2 ships without a gallery app pre-installed onto the phone which leaves Google Photos as the only default option for managing photos and videos. While the pre-installed Google Photos app is good for basic users, it is not the best gallery app when we look at what is offered on competing devices. So here area a few alternative options you can explore.
Contents
1. Asus Gallery
Pre-installed on Asus smartphones and Enriched with a lot of functionality, the Asus Gallery is the best one we can recommend. The app first of all lets you separate out videos and makes it easier to access them when videos just get mixed up among lots of photos. Then there is the trash which can be used to avoid accidental deletion of photos. Photos and albums can be sorted based on various parameters (newest, oldest & date). It also comes with some basic photo editing functions.
The only downside is that the interface of the app is more inclined towards the ZenUI style and hence is a bit of standout when compared to the minimalist UI of the Oxygen OS. Asus Gallery is also unavailable to non-Asus devices so you cannot download it via Play Store.

It’s not been long since OnePlus developed its own gallery app and submitted it to the Play Store. OnePlus gallery is therefore easier to install and to keep updated. Some very basic photo editing functions such as rotate and flip are built into the app. OnePlus Gallery offers 2 different views:
Photos – date-wise sorting of camera photos and videos
Collections – List of all folders/collections present on the storage
While the app is good, it’s still in its early stage of development and hence is not free of crashes, lags and sluggishness at times especially if you have too many of high definition photos. There are also no additional options to customize some aspects of the gallery.
3. Cyanogen Gallery
Cyanogen Gallery is a part of the Cyanogen OS and is available in a seperate C-Apps package for devices running CyanogenMod. OnePlus 2 users can sideload the APK file to install it on their devices.
There are 3 default views available in Cyanogen Gallery i.e.
Moments – which shows week and month wise listing of images in the form of cards
Albums – which shows all the folders present on the device
Media – which shows all the media present on the device as continuous thumbnails
Cyanogen Gallery also allows you to link your Facebook, Google+ (Picasa), Flickr and Dropbox accounts to have the photos directly visible within the app.

There definitely are many other gallery apps available for android, some being available for all while others only available for a particular brand’s devices. There’s QuickPic gallery made by CM team and there’s also a beautiful app called Albums made by Sony. Do let us know which one is your favorite and if it’s not in the list above, we’d love to add 🙂
