Undo (CTRL + Z) and Redo (CTRL + Y) are basic features which we make use of everyday on the PC. It becomes a problem when we switch to our mobile phones or tablets. Android out of the box offers no way of undoing or redoing text and this can cause a mess in case a heap of text gets over-written or we just need to make some correction. Fortunately, there is an app available which can add basic undo and redo support to Android smartphones and tablets.
Inputting+ Adds Undo and Redo Support
Inputting+ (download link in the end of post) is an amazing Android productivity app developed by Catching Now. The app adds Undo, Redo, Find and Replace to Android smartphones and the feature can be easily accessed via the pull down slider. A notification will appear while typing, similar to the keyboard notification that appears if you have multiple keyboards enabled.
After installation, the app drives you through the basic setup which includes providing accessibility access. If you’re worried that the app might collect what you type, worry not as the app only takes the necessary permissions, none of which allow the app to communicate over the network or send data to somebody else. Without sending it, there’s no point for the app to collect what is being typed.
When typing text, you can simply pull down from the top and select the back arrow to undo text. Once an undo is done, the redo icon (right arrow) will appear. You can also press the search icon to launch find and replace utility.
You can also turn on the Inputting Timeline which stores all the entered text and can be a life saver if an app suddenly crashes. The stored text is presented as a timeline with newest items appearing first. Other than that, there is also the option for clipboard history which will make it possible to have more than 1 text items copied to the clipboard.
