Microsoft has announced over at Conversations that Microsoft Lumia is the branding to be seen on future smartphones from the company’s Mobiles division that it recently acquired from Nokia. What it means that there will be no more ‘Nokia’ branded Lumia phones (or simply smartphones).
There is no concrete detail, but as we already know that Microsoft is in the process of eventually killing the entire family of Nokia X, Feature (dumb?) Phones and Asha phones, there is a possibility that the current devices are the last ones to carry the Nokia branding. However, the Nokia branding should be staying as long as those phones are manufactured and sold.
The present family of Lumia devices might also see the branding change with newly manufactured units and packaging carrying the Microsoft Lumia branding and completely ditching away Nokia from Lumia phones. However, as previously said, there is no official clarification regarding this, so this is just what I feel. As of now, the last smartphones to come with Nokia in-scripted on them are the Nokia Lumia 830 and Nokia Lumia 730.
It is saddening to see your favorite brand being kicked away, but hopefully Nokia will have another chance to enter the consumer market as it still lives as a separate company. Mobile Phones or related devices should be the thing of choice for Nokia as a company as the Nokia brand is closely related to mobile phones. Let’s see how it goes 😉
