HMD Global has silently launched the Nokia 3310 4G in China. The last year’s Nokia 3310 reborn came only with 2G support and was often criticized for the same. HMD also launched a 3G variant afterwards and this year, we finally get the 4G variant of Nokia 3310. The phone comes baked with VoLTE calling support and offers the ability to create 4G WiFi hotspot.
The new Nokia 3310 4G runs the Alibaba’s Yun OS. The OS is developed for smartphones, so, it is likely that the new 3310 will offer smarter features as compared to its predecessor. That said, Nokia (on its webpage in China) has not announced anything regarding what apps will be supported. It will be a pity if the new Nokia 3310 4G fails to offer WhatsApp.

The limited storage and ram is a enough sign to assume that the app support will be very limited. The Nokia 3310 4G will continue to be a feature phone. HMD probably decided to go with Yun OS only because the S30 OS used on last year’s 3310 had no support for 4G and VoLTE. That said, we will get a real-world confirmation after the phone starts shipping in China.
It was reported by Digit.in that HMD executives are in talks with Reliance Jio to offer the Nokia 3310 4G in India. So, with the phone launching in China, it is a clear sign that the phone will also be made available in India. However, for it to be successful in India, the pricing needs to be carefully decided. Jio already offers the JioPhone which is very cheap even compared to the 3310 with 2G.
Launch Dates
China – HMD Global will make the Nokia 3310 available for purchase in early February.
Global – HMD Global is expected to launch the Nokia 3310 4G for global markets during the MWC 2018. MWC is being held in Barcelona between 26th Feb and 1st March. We also expect HMD Global to present the Nokia 9, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 1 along with the 3310 4G.
