Nokia Mobile announced a brand new device for the world dubbed the Nokia XR20. From the name, it looks to be related to the Nokia X20, however, there’s a lot more that the alphabet “R” adds to it. The Nokia XR20 is a tough and rugged smartphone adhering to the MIL-STD-810G standard. Nokia calls the XR20 scratch-resistant, drop-resistant, temperature-resistant, water-resistant, and kid-and-pet-resistant.
Nokia Mobile is also tossing in decent 5G support and its signature highlights like 3 years of warranty & Android OS upgrades (4 years of security updates on the XR20) making it an attractive buy for long-term tension-free usage. To support their claim of ruggedness, Nokia Mobile is providing for a 1-year screen replacement offering free of cost (this offer may vary by region).
The Nokia XR20 is powered by the same Snapdragon 480 chipset as seen on the Nokia X20 and the Nokia X10. It features a 6.67-inch IPS LCD display that offers 550 nits of peak brightness. To ensure that the display stays protected, Nokia Mobile is using the latest and the greatest Gorilla Glass Victus. Nokia Mobile claims that the users can use the display with wet hands or while wearing gloves.
The phone features 2 cameras at the back and 1 punch-hole-styled camera at the front, thereby eliminating the mostly unneeded macro and depth sensors. The back features a 48 MP primary shooter and a 13 MP shooter for wide-angle shots. The camera housing carries the ZEISS branding, giving hints of good camera performance and support for Camera Pro mode. On the front, there is an 8 MP f2.0 shooter for selfies and video calls.
The other highlights include 18W fast charging (QuickCharge 4.0) and 15W wireless charging support for the non-removable 4630 mAh battery. Side fingerprint scanner, OZO Audio, Stereo speakers, NFC, MicroSD card support, and Android 11.
The Nokia XR20 seems to be a great general-purpose smartphone that can endure well over the years, even without a case. The price is a little high at around 499 Euros (will vary by markets ~43,800 INR or 589 USD), but if looking for a rugged smartphone, the XR20 still is a nice deal overall. The sales will start around late August in a storage configuration of 128GB internal coupled with 6GB of RAM.
