Nokia 5.3 users can finally update their smartphones to Android 11. HMD Global – the Nokia brand licensee has finally pulled the triggers to the Android 11 update for Nokia 5.3. The update which was originally planned for rollout by the end of December 2020, is some 7 months behind the schedule, but thankfully it is finally here. Even though Android 12 is almost here, Android 11 is still the latest and greatest as of today.
As part of the staged rollout, the update is available in 13 countries (listed below) under wave 1. By August 6th, 2021, all the users of Nokia 5.3 in the following regions will get the Android 11 update. The other regions shall be covered in subsequent waves as and when the necessary approvals are done.
Countries covered in Wave 1: Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Taiwan, Vietnam
Size of update: The update weighs around 1.67 GB and bumps the build number to 2.210. There’s an Android security patch for June 2021 included, which is a bit out of date, suggesting that the update was probably supposed to be released in June/July 2021, but was postponed due to some issues.
What’s new in Android 11?
Android 11 is more of an under-the-hood update. Hence, as a user, you might not see too many visual changes. Still, for a quick reference, you will get to see the new conversations section in the notifications area, chat bubbles, inbuilt screen recording, improvements to media controls in the notifications area, and some more. You can refer to the post below to see all that’s new in Android 11.
