Windows Phone is surely catching up the race with the other Operating Systems and Operator or Carrier billing for the WP Store in India is another major step towards that. India is a big market for Windows Phone and because India is still catching up with Online Card payments, offering Operator Billing can be a good way to keep the Windows store healthy and to make it easy for an Indian WP user to buy apps and games from the Windows Phone Store.
Reliance Mobile Offers Operator Billing to WP Users
Reliance Mobile customers in India can now easily purchase apps and games from the Windows Phone store without the need of a Credit or Debit Card. The charge for the purchased app will be directly deduced from the Prepaid Balance or added to the Phone bill (for postpaid customers).
While purchasing an app or making an in-app purchase, Reliance customers will see see an option to charge the amount to their mobile phone account. This charge will be initiated by sending a pre-filled SMS to the designated number.
I tried with Docomo, Airtel, Vodafone and Aircel, but it seems only Reliance has managed to make Operator Billing work for now. But probably it won’t take long for at least Airtel and Vodafone to start offering the same?
