One of the annoying bits of Windows Phone is that it makes shutter sound when you take a screenshot. No matter if your phone is set to vibrate only or the global volume is pulled down to zero, it will still produce the sound upon pressing the Windows (Start) and Lock key together. However, there’s a setting to turn off the Screenshot sounds at the expense of turning off the Camera Shutter sounds as well. If you’ve explored your phone’s settings, you’ve probably already found this out. Else, here’s how to do that.
- Swipe left from start screen.
- Scroll down and tap on Settings.
- Tap on Ringtones + Sound
- Scroll Down and under Play a sound for, uncheck the box in front of Camera Shutter.
- Hit back and start taking screenshots or clicking photos using the camera. No sound will be played for both
Windows Phone probably treats taking screenshots and taking pictures as likely the same thing as in both the situations, the stuff displayed on the screen is captured and saved to the Pictures gallery.
I personally don’t like the shutter sounds for camera, so this does not affect me. But because there are many users who make use of the Camera Shutter to know when their selfie is clicked and saved, there needs to be a separate option for turning off the sound emitted while taking screenshots. Hopefully Windows Phone 8.1 update will be bringing a solution 🙂
